Smart louvres cool Hampstead school atrium

Client: Wates Construction/Colorminium

Location: North London

Overview:

The sensitive expansion and remodelling of South Hampstead High School was extensive, with Wates Construction leading a £20 million project that included demolishing old squash courts, providing temporary accommodation, and the construction of a new school building. Colorminium, the specialist contractor handling the facade package of the construction contract, called on Adexsi UK to help arrange the necessary opening elements.

Outcome:

Adexsi was contracted to supply and install a louvre system at high level in the new building’s main atrium, that would both provide natural ventilation during the school day, and also operate in a fire situation as a smoke venting facility. The company provided 21 of its Luxlam louvre units, which were linked to the building’s heating and cooling systems. Fitting neatly into the glazed facade, the units sit behind horizontal solar shading bars added to the exterior of the building.
