Building a home for Amazon HQ
Client: Principal Place
Location: London
Overview:
Online retailer Amazon surely needs no introduction, and we’re proud to say we’ve contributed to making its new UK headquarters a safer and comfortable place to work.
Principal Place is located near Broadgate in the heart of London and is a 15 storey building capable of housing no less than 5,000 people in a super-modern working environment.
Based near the financial district of the City, the building has benefited from smoke control systems installed by Adexsi UK, working on a project with teams from Brookfield, Michael J Lonsdale and Foster + Partners.
Outcome:
The 600,000sqft construction features a ‘VeriShaft’ system – Adexsi UK’s mechanical smoke ventilation systems which is designed to suit each application. Our team worked closely with the client to take account of all legislative demands and building regulations that applied to the project, drawing together the best components and products from within the Adexsi group into as system that extracts dangerous smoke if a fire breaks out. This enables escape for building occupants and easier fire fighter access. Working in partnership with the main contractor and services specialist, Adexsi UK developed a smoke ventilation system in the building’s impressive atrium, as well as delivering a ‘VeriPark’ system in the underground car park. This enables maintenance of safe and healthy air quality levels in terms of managing build-up of vehicle exhausts, but can also operate as smoke ventilation if a fire starts in the car park. These systems are designed to all work in harmony thanks to the application of Adexsi UK’s ‘VeriCom’ control systems.
