UK Hydrographic Office

Client: UK Hydrographic Office

Location: Taunton, England

Overview:

The UK Hydrographic Office is responsible for processing and passing on vital information to the maritime industry and seafaring military forces, acting as cartographers and supplying marine geospatial data. Consequently, it is responsible for delivering operational support to the Royal Navy and other key defence customers. Supplying defence and the commercial shipping industry, it helps ensure Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), protects the marine environment and supports the efficiency of global trade.

Outcome:

Adexsi UK were appointed to work alongside AHR Architects, BAM Construction, Mace Group, FP Hurley, Hydrock, Bureau Veritas and UKHO. Our scope was to design, supply and install an efficient but effective Smoke Extraction System to the building’s attractive main atrium space. This atrium feature requires specific smoke control design considerations due to the height of the area and the predicted path of hot smoke (as modelled in CFD work) – the lack of vertical compartmentation means smoke could rise up the atrium and flood onto the working floors as it passes, unless a suitable system is installed. An Adesmoke System was installed to fulfil the brief.
