Lidl expands to meet demand

Budget grocery retailer Lidl is enjoying booming demand for its products across the UK. As well as building new stores to meet consumer demand, it is also increasing its supply chain to support the flow of goods to those stores.
At its Runcorn regional distribution centre where the company already has a major depot, plans were recently approved for an expansion that will add 2,741 sq metres of additional floorspace with a freezer room, ancillary space and a refrigeration unit. The expansion is expected to create a further 25 jobs on top of the 310 staff already employed at the site on Blackheath Lane in Manor Park.
Adexsi has been involved with the creation of the extension to the substantial warehouse building. The company has supplied 38 Hexacoif roof ventilation units to help ensure adequate ventilation and smoke ventilation as required within the building.
Local newspaper the Liverpool Echo said Lidl’s move was a vote of confidence in Runcorn, after the recent losses in the area due to closures and relocations. And local planners at Halton Borough Council gave their approval, noting: “The scheme is considered to offer a good quality of development suited to the character of the site and the wider area.”
