Overview:
Carmelite House on Victoria Embankment in the City of London is a new office development that delivers high specification offices within a new build that also includes the reuse of a historic 19th century building facade for part of the building’s exterior. Contractor Morgan Sindall has completed six floors of offices, combining the new and old seamlessly. Designed by architects Fletcher Priest, the building includes a central atrium to provide natural daylight into the building and create an open, airy interior. Lifts open onto lobby space adjacent to the atrium.
Outcome:
Adexsi was asked to supply and install a high level VeriFlow ventilation system at the top of the atrium, combining a daily ventilation function that stops heat building up in the glazed roofspace, with a smoke ventilation function. The solution was to install 16 thermally broken Luxlam ventilator units, with insulated aluminium blades and a Vericom intelligent control system. The unobtrusive louvres can be opened to allow warm air to escape, encouraging fresh, cooler air into the building at lower levels. Should a fire alarm be activated in the building, then the Luxlam units are deployed to help remove smoke quickly from the interior, helping building occupants to escape quickly from the premises.
