Works have been completed at the new One Central Square development in the middle of Wales’ capital city, Cardiff.
The building is part of a five phase masterplan for the area due for completion in 2018, adding new office, retail and residential spaces for this growing capital.
The first phase office building totals 135,000 sq ft over nine floors and offers basement car parking. The building has achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’, and has benefited from a smoke control system from Adexsi UK combining VeriShaft, VeriPark and VeriCom to produce a safe, efficient and regulatory compliant solution.
The VeriShaft is a smoke shaft designed to keep each of the nine floors clear of smoke in the instance of a fire, ensuring stairwell escape routes are accessible and that Fire Brigade personnel have easy access. The VeriPark system offers similar benefits to the underground car park, with the added effect of removing built-up exhaust gases while saving energy on traditional ducted systems. These systems only work properly when each element is in communication with the next, so Adexsi UK’s VeriCom is employed to govern how each vent, fan and detector works in harmony to create a safe environment.
